project Summary:
On the new 178-acre Hazelwood Green development, nestled under the skeleton of the old J&L Steel superstructure is Mill 19, a stunning research and development hub that houses CMU’s Manufacturing Futures Initiative and the non-profit Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing. It is a 265,000 square foot complex that is an eco-friendly, environmentally sustainable LEED v4 Gold building with state of the art lighting and controls for which Clista received the Turner Outstanding Subcontractor Award. It boasts a high performance envelope that provides maximum thermal efficiency and up to 96% daylight autonomy and two-thirds of the electricity is offset by on-site generated energy. Clista provided utility infrastructure including duct-banks, with multiple manholes, NMA3R switch gear lineup, and central plant building infrastructure. The facility includes an extensive exterior site Illuminations package highlighting the building details. This site is a symbol of revitalization and represents the future of Pittsburgh advanced manufacturing and robotics.
Greatest Challenges/REquirements:
- Identifying and installing fixture and light sources that align with the manufacturing and industrial “look and feel” of the building
